The Ryedale Exhibition & Leisure Village is located just south of the lovely North Yorkshire market town of Pickering. A town of castles, steam-trains and tea rooms, set in the midst of magnificent moorland.
If you fancy spending a bit more time in Pickering there are a number of sites worth visiting:
- The English Heritage–run Pickering Castle is a remarkably intact castle originally constructed under William the Conqueror with remains intact from the twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
- Ryedale Swimming Pool, located just south-east of the town centre, with extensive public swimming sessions and a flume!
- The North York Moors Railway, running steam services across the moors to a number of local destinations.
- Numerous quaint cafés, tea rooms, independent and specialist shops. An extensive brochure of local shopping can be downloaded here [PDF].
The road into Pickering has pavement all the way along; if you are car-less or would prefer a walk just turn left out of the site. Please be aware that this is a fairly busy road and the walk is about 1.5 miles each way.
